This paper is calculates pollution loads at Danyang-Jechon Basin and effects on Lake Chungju. QUAL2E model was to simulate water quality improvement by reduced pollution loads. Considered scenarios are : Scenario A is the case of water quality forecasting from 2003 to 2011 years, scenario E is adding pollution sources by increased tourist to scenario A, scenario F is the case of implementation of load reduction strictly including the area of developmental promotion. In the result of study, Scenario E is showed second grade water quality at Lake Chungju and BOD, T-N, T-P concentration are increased from 2003 to 2011 years. But the result of applying Scenario F is showed first grade water quality and T-N, T-P concentration are decreased and water quality is improved a lot.

Enhancement of incineration ashes`s landfill is expected near the future as results of increase of their emissions. Heavy metal contamination is a serious problem because incineration of their emissions. Heavy metal contamination is a serious problem because incineration ashes contain a significant amount of harmful heavy metals. In our study, the fixation of S^2-to heavy metal (ie, Metal Sulfide)in the landfill was examinated to remove the heavy metal using sulfate reduction. Other heavy metals such as Pb, Cu, Zn and Al also showed somewhat trend of heavy metal fixation. Leaching amount and leaching rate of heavy metals were lower in the incineration ashes column than those in sludge column. Out of reactor R1~R5, the sulfate added reactor R3~R5 showed heavy metal leaching rate of > 50% in Pb and Cu. In addition, reactor R6~R10 showed heavy metal leaching rate of 10^-1~10^-2% in most of heavy metals.

We have analyzed the radiological chemical risks of uranium in groundwater. The median concentration of uranium was 0.18ppb in ten areas in Korea. The excess cancer risks were at the 10^7 level in radiological risk aspect and the hazard quotient was 0.01 in chemical risk aspect. Therefore, an adverse health risk is unlikely to be posed due to exposure to uranium. However, the concentration of uranium must be monitored periodically and adequate action taken in the few small areas containing high uranium level in groundwater.

This paper assesses the results obtained from a microfiltration(MF) pilot plant operation with surface water during two months. A pilot plant operated in cross flow filtration feed and bleed mode continuously(pore size 0.22㎛, tubular MF membrane). The most important operational parameter achieved during the pilot experiment was permeability. The permeability depends on characteristics of the raw water, membrane surface properties, and operation condition. If the coagulated water is supplied without coagulation process, conventional membrane separation devices have a risk of decreasing permeate flux due to plugging of flow path and fouling of the membrane surface. Consequently, in this experiment, the initial permeate flux decline about almost 50% is due primarily to the silicate deposition of PACs(polyaluminium chloride silicate) coagulant on the membrane surface. Also, the permeate flux is never restored again by irreversible deposition(attachment) of silicate particles on the membrane surface.

The characteristics of rainwater through the first flush cutoff system, hydrocyclone and sedimentation basin was investigated to utilize the rainwater from a pavement area. This study was conducted in K university located in Seoul through Apr. 2002 to Sep. 2002. The pH, turbidity, SS, color, COD, particle size was decreased to 50-80% compared to those influx through the first flush cutoff system. The removal rate of contaminants by hydrocyclone and sedimentation basin for pH, turbidity, SS was 50~60% and 40~50%, respectively.

Two lab scale anaerobic reactors, anaerobic suquencing batch reactor (ASBR) and static granular bed reactor (SGBR), were operated to evaluate performances of packed house wastewater treatment by changing the HRT (hydraulic Retention Time) from 48 to 12 hours. The start-up time for both the ASBR and SGBR were short; less than one month. This was primarily due to the use of active granular sludge as a seed biomass. Throughout the study, the SGBR reactor produced good effluent quality; lass than 30 mg/L SS and BOD_5 concentrations. However, the ASBR system showed slightly higher effluent SS and COD concentration than the SGBR system due to biomass washout during the cyclic decanting. Bath systems showed good COD removal at HRTs from 48 to 24 hours. In case of ASBR, COD removal decreased and the effluent SS concentration increased with the HRT from 24 to 18 hours. With respect to the differences between the ASBR and SGBR systems, it was clear that the SGBR offered advantages over the ASBR system. The SGBR had better effluent quality as evidenced y lower VFA, BOD_5, COD, and TSS concentrations. The discrepancies in effluent quality became more dramatic as the HRT decreased below 14 hours. While stable SGBR operation was observed at HRTs as low 12 hours, the ASBR performance became erratic from the 18 hours HRT.
