This investigation was carried out to study on the effects of decolorization and COD removal from aqueous dyes solutions by ozonization. Then, the efficiency was studied by the change of voltage, pH and flow rate. The experimental results are summarized as follows : 1. The equilibrium concentration of the dissolved ozone is achieved within fifteen minutes, and the self-decomposition rate of ozone is the highest in alkaline solution. 2. The effects of COD removal and decolorization were good in proper conditions alkali region, high voltage, reasonable value between voltage and flow rate. 3. The effects of decolorization and COD removal were distributed from l5 percentage to l00 percentage, from 25 percentage to 84 percentage, respectively. 4. The correlation between decolouring efficiency and COD removal efficiency were low for pH and flow rate, and high for voltage. 5. The proper operation condition of ozonizer in these dyes solutions were not alkali region, the flow rate of 10ℓ/min, and the 60(×60) voltage.

A leachate from municipal sanitary landfill site, which is located at the Sukdae-dung, Pusan, was characterized in term of high BOD(∼25,800㎎/ℓ), COD (∼52,000㎎/ℓ) and NH₄^+-N (l,950㎎/ℓ) during August-September, 1987. Nonbiodegradable portion of this waste was estimated to be approximately 20% based on 20 days BOD and COD measurements. Possibility of pretreatment with coagulant including alum, lime and alumlime mixture was tested on this wastewater, Alum with 2,500㎎/ℓ at rapid mixing period of o to 10 minutes was resulted 45% removal of COD, which was best efficiency among various testing conditions. Comparison of biological treatability test on raw leachate and coagulant -treated wastewater was performed with batch reactor, When the initial F/M was increased from 0.34 to 2.9, the trend of treatability was decreased. However, the removal efficiencies of COD of coagulant-treated wastewater became higher than those of raw leachate as the initial F/M increased.

This survey was conducted at 6 sites of the Andong reservoir through May 197 and March 1988 to estimate the water quality characteristics and the trophic state of the reservoir. The following conclusions was made from the results of this study. 1. The water quality of Andong reservoir is equivalent to 2nd grade in water quality criteria. 2. The current trophic state of Andong reservoir is mesotrophiceutrophic state. 3. The trophic state of Andong reservoir will be mesotrophic and oligotrophic state by the relationship between chlorophyll a and total phosphorous by Vollenweider`s criteria when 20% and 80% reduction of pollution loadings are accomplished.

This study was performed from November 19, 1982 to October 6, 1983 to investigate heavy metal pollution on Onsan coastal area. The arithmetic mean values of cadmium, copper, lead and zinc in the seawater were 0.53, 3.96, 4.52 and 28.6㎍/ℓ, respectively, which were higher than those of the reference area, Jinha. The concentrations(dry wt.basis) of cadmium, copper, lead and zinc in the seaweed, Grateloupia turuturu, were 0.18, 9.38, 2.47 and 46.0 ㎎/Kg, respectively. The concentrations(dry wt. basis) of cadmium, copper, lead and zinc in the Shellfish, Mytilus edulis, were 2.53, 10.4, 6.43 and 48.7㎎/Kg, respectively. These were higher than those of the reference area, Jinha. Chemical species of copper in Dae jeong stream, which was the main source of heavy metals in Onsan coastal area, was shown that most of cupric ions added to the stream water formed complex with organic ligands. The toxic effects of copper to the aquatic life might not seem to be acute because more than 90% of the copper was formed in complex.

Total-mercury contents of water and fresh-water fishes from NakDong river basin in July, 1985 were determined by Quartz Tube combustion-Gold Amalgamation method. Samples were collected at 12 sites (An Dong Lake, An Dong, Go Pyong, Nak Dong, Ku Mi, Sung Ju Bridge, Hyon Poong, Jeok Kyo, Nam Ji, Su San, Kim Hae, Ku Po) of Nak Dong river basin and physico-chemical. properties of water were determined by Horiba U-7 type analyzer Calibration method was used in calculation for those of fresh-water fishes and Standard Addition method, for water. The results were as follows ; 1 . Total mercury contents of 6 species, 124 freshwater fishes averaged 0.196ppm. 2. Total-mercury contents of Parasilurus Asotus were gradually increased from the upper stream to the down (0.25∼0.40ppm) 3. Total mercury contents in various parts of Carassius Auratus muscle were comparatively uniform. 4. Mean total mercury contents of Parasilurus Asotus (0.314ppm) was higher than that of Carassius Auratus (0.123ppm), which is thought to be caused by the difference of habitats. 5. pH and DO values of water were gradually decreased from the upper stream to the down. 6. Conductivity of Ku Po site was particulary high (1.8) 7. Total mercury contents of water averaged 0.279ppb. 8. The concentration ratio of total mercury contents between fresh-water fishes and water approximately averaged 773 : 1.

Fractional composition of sediment phosphorus and pollution potential of water quality by the sediments in three artificial reservoirs in the vicinity of Chuncheon area are investigated. The fractional scheme was made for four chemically defined phosphorus forms as adsorbed phosphorus, nonaptite inorganic phosphorus, apatite phosphorus and organic phosphorus. The most abundant fraction is organic phosphorus and second, nonapatite inorganic phosphorus, so the efficient scavenging processes of dissolved phosphorus in lake water are biological uptake and chemical complexation. The sediments are in high organic carbon contents of 1.74%, 2.45% and 0.77% in Lakes Soyang, Chuncheon and Uiam, respectively. The C/N ratios of the sediments are 7.4, 14.7 and 7.6 in Lakes Soyang, Chuncheon and Uiam, respectively. This presents the organic matters deposited in the surficial sediments of the Lakes Soyang and Uiam are not mineralized so well, Based on the high labile fraction of sediments phosphorus, organic carbon contents, C/N ratios, sediments of Lakes Soyang and Uiam have high pollution potential to overlying water quality.

First order second moment analysis has been applied to two lakes in the Adirondack Park, New York, coupled with the ETD model to assess the response of the lakes to acid deposition. Because the model is calibrated with Only, two years of field data and used to simulate a 50 year period, the uncertainty in the lake alkalinity prediction is relatively large. The results indicate that, when a best estimate of parameter uncertainty is used, the uncertainty in the long range predictions of lake alkalinity increase dramatically. If input parameter uncertainty were included in the simulations, the uncertainty of the lake alkalinity long-term predictions would be increased even more.
